Lessons and Clinics

Lessons-
I offer a limited number of private lessons for riders of all disciplines on your own horse.  I will come to you (in and around Franklin Co., VA- travel charge applies) or you may trailer in to me.  I will evaluate you and your horse in the first lesson and develop a plan of action to help you achieve your short and long-term goals.

I schedule my lessons like Dr.'s appointments rather than regular weekly lessons. Depending on your needs, I will meet with you one-four times (on the average) in the first few weeks to a month, then give you time to practice and develop the skills I have taught you.  According to your personalized plan, I will schedule additional lessons as needed to check in on your progress and move you forward until you reach your goals.  This flexibility of schedule makes it more cost-effective and easier to fit riding lessons into a busy lifestyle.

Private lessons are one on one and cost $30.00/hour (if given at Buksbari Ranch) or $40.00/hour if I travel to your farm (within Franklin County). If you live in a surrounding county, the fee (including travel) is $50.00/hr., and the fee for all other areas (up to 75 mi. one way from Rocky Mount, VA) is $70.00/hr.

Clinics:
Clinics are the best choice for groups of 5 or more riders (family, friends, church groups, horse clubs, etc.) and provide a unique "all-in-one" experience.  Age and minimum rider and horse requirements will be determined on an individual clinic basis.  Multiple sessions over the course of one or more days can be held to accomodate large groups.  Clinics can be held at your farm or equestrian facility (in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast) or mine.

Clinics give horse and rider partnerships a chance to intensively work on popular goals (such as basic communication and control, trail riding, confidence and motivation, etc.) as well as Bible study, prayer, music, and Christian fellowship.  Attendees receive group lessons as well as one-on-one coaching.  Clinic sessions are either 1/2 day or whole day.

A typical one-day clinic might include an opening prayer and musical or horse-dancing performance by Aspen and one of her horses. Next Aspen evaluates participants' horses, tack, and skills.  Any changes are made, then basic group instruction follows.   Next, the first set of individual instruction sessions are given.  Participants help each other during these sessions for fellowship and encouragement, while Aspen guides the instruction.  Lunch is next, with a seminar on horse handling, care, and health (or other chosen topic) while participants eat.  Then it is back to the remainder of individual instruction sessions, followed by a trail ride and Bible study/prayer session at a resting point on the trail.

A half day session would shorten the individual lesson times and shorten or omit the trail ride.

To spice it up, clinics can be started later in the day and end with Aspen (and family, when available) performing Christian and Cowgirl music and poetry and leading "cowboy church" at a farm-provided BBQ or around the campfire.  Families are welcome to join participants at no extra charge, and a fun time is had by all.

(If you are on a budget or have time or facility constraints, Aspen can do a "bare-bones" clinic, where she comes without a horse and concentrates solely on working with riders in the ring.  This is also an option for those who do not want a religious aspect to the clinic.)

Rates are typically $50.00/half day (per horse/rider combination) or $100.00/whole day (per horse/rider combination).  A travel fee also applies to all clinics outside of Franklin Co., VA.
